Therapies

Techniques used:

Whether you want Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Connective Tissue, Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, LaStone Therapy (TM), Hot Stone Massage, Pregnancy Massage, relaxation work, or Reflexology we believe your massage needs to be as individual as you are. One type of massage does NOT fit all.

Therefore the therapists at Old Town Massage Center offer massage sessions using techniques from many various massage modalities. Our therapists draw on their extensive training to incorporate elements from numerous techniques to ensure that you receive the type of massage that is best suited to your needs on any particular day. We partner with you to create a customized session. Our client?s modesty is always respected and we take great care when draping.

Swedish Massage:
The primary intention of Swedish Massage is to encourage relaxation and fluid movement in the circulatory and lymph systems. The therapist uses light pressure and gentle glides to promote a full-body relaxation. This work is ideal for the novice massage client or the elderly, or if you simply want to be pampered.

Deep Tissue:
Using focused, slow strokes and deep pressure the therapist directly affects muscle tension and dysfunction, seeking to release muscle tissue thus increasing metabolic functions at the cellular level.

Trigger Point Massage:

Using a combination of stretching and static pressure on hypersensitive areas in the muscles, the therapist releases the muscle and frees the client from chronic pain patterns.

NeuroMuscular Therapy:
This technique uses various palpation methods to address five specific causes of muscular pain and dysfunction. The muscles are worked in a very precise manner addressing the muscle belly the muscle origin and its insertion. Trigger points are released and the muscle is stretched.

Connective Tissue Massage:
This technique addresses the connective tissues that wrap each individual muscle, organ and bone. By stretching the connective tissue the therapist creates space for the muscles to relax and return to an optimal position. The client often feels a great sense of openness after a CTM.

Sports Specific Massage:
Many massage centers claim to have experience in Sports massage. Old Town Massage Center really does. OTMC is a proud sponsor of some of the area's top local talents such as cyclist Anton Quist and triathlete Margie Shapiro. If you are an athlete, be it a pro or amateur, you can come in and receive work that is appropriate to both your training goals and pre/post event condition. We will work with you on overuse, injury or fatigue issues. Your session will always be tailored to how you feel on the actual day that you come in. No "cookie cutter" work here.

LaStone Therapy (TM):
The Therapist applies heated basalt stone and/or chilled marble as necessary to relax the muscles. This is a very spiritual massage and the seven chakras are addressed and stimulated during these sessions. Other benefits of this work are deep detoxification of the muscles and organs of the body. A LaStone session makes a wonderful gift for that special someone in your life.

Pregnancy Massage:
At
Old Town Massage Center only therapists with extensive training offer prenatal massage. These safe and effective techniques promote maternal health and well being during pregnancy, and also promote mother-child bonding and decrease the risks of PPD.

Intuitive Session:

In this session the therapist draws on her extensive knowledge of massage and combines many techniques creating a 2 hour session that is truly transformational.
